Mataji

Anu had met Mataji at her friend’s home and fell totally in love with her. She did not have any idea that she was a Self realised Saint. All she knew was that her presence filled her heart with love and that she could not stop smiling from ear to ear when she was near her.

Mataji made each and every person feel the love that they may not have felt even from their own mothers. She was the embodiment of compassion and nobody felt judged in her presence, no matter what they had done.

Anu was about to get married and Mataji asked her to bring her fiancé when she came again to see her. She was very excited at her fiancé Girish, meeting Mataji.

The next day when she came to see Mataji, she had brought Girish with her to take Mataji’s blessings. Mataji blessed them both and prepared plates of fruit for both of them.

Girish did not really know what to expect as he was cynical about Saints. They stayed on while others took Mataji’s blessings and they just watched her, not speaking.

When everyone was done, they took her leave and promised to come see her at her ashram after the wedding.

The wedding took place in a few weeks and life took over. They did not go to see Mataji.

A few years passed and their relationship had deteriorated drastically. Anu was at a loss as she could not figure out what had gone wrong all of a sudden. She took leave and went to Mataji’s ashram for guidance. Mataji gave her such a tremendous hug that Anu broke down in tears.

She had not said a word and Mataji told her, “Girish has fallen in love with another girl. Let him go. I will find you another man who will love you and take care of you.” She did not believe it and thought Mataji was trying to free her from a troublesome marriage by saying this.

She could not fathom how Mataji would know such a thing as she had only met Girish once before the wedding. Anu returned home and life continued at a status quo.

A few months later she found out from Girish that he was in love with someone else. She could not believe it and Mataji’s words came back to her.

It took another few years for the marriage to dissolve under very ugly circumstances.

She went regularly to Mataji and was initiated into a spiritual practice. She was very grateful to Mataji for having warned her. She now realised that Saints know everything that they need to know, to help those who need their help and guidance.

She wanted to stay on at the ashram but Mataji told her that she must return home and continue living her life there while doing her spiritual practice.

Mataji said “I will call you when the time comes for you to be here.”

Anu was full of love and hope that she would get to be with Mataji some day. It was something that kept her committed to her spiritual practice and she healed in time. She regularly visited Mataji twice a year. That was all she could have hoped for, someone to love like she loved Mataji and she knew that Mataji was pure love.
