The Letter
Dear Nick,
I see that you have made up your mind to be a writer. I must say that it is a very brave step as reading is a dying passion. Everything is now reduced to blurbs and quotes these days. But if you feel strongly about it, you must.
It is indeed a privilege to be able to influence thoughts; through generations in some cases, and you must write what you know and understand.
There may not be many who see things the way you do, but it is your duty to express yourself in the way you know how.
Keep to it and you will find your voice and what you want to express will come to you.
It is in endless search that you will find your voice; and your beliefs will change as you traverse the landscape of your mind. Write because you need to, write because something needs to get out there into the world.
Writing can be very powerful mode of expression and you must feel it so. Write because it feels natural to write and your skill as a writer will sharpen and so will your mind. Like any other artist, you will face doubt at the beginning but you must persevere till the end.
It is not so much in what is perceived of what you write, but what you dig out of your heart and soul that will make you feel joy in the purest sense.
It is an expression of who you are and you must find it in your heart to absorb the changes in yourself as you continue to express yourself.
The changes that you will observe will be the only education worth receiving.
All that you have learnt thus far, will vanish and on this invisible foundation you will see a new you, forever changing and learning.
This is the only reason that one should even consider being a writer. You are not reporting only what you see out in the world, but what it becomes when you process it with your individual experience.
It is truly said that thoughts bind you; but a single thought can free you.
Tread tirelessly till you find the one true thought that frees you.
You are embarking on this journey of discovery and wonder and may you experience all that you seek.
Truly yourself,
Nick.
