At A Church
Nick could not believe his luck. He had just wandered into a church and it had started pouring heavily.
He was glad that he was not caught in the rain and as he looked around, he saw a man sitting quietly, looking at Jesus on the cross and wondered why did they have such a harsh image of Jesus.
He had known it all his life and had loved Him and prayed to Him and he had been comforted and taken care of by Him.
He went and sat and looked around. He had no idea why he had been drawn to this church, but it felt beautiful. It was charged with energy from the prayers of the lovers of Jesus.
All the places of worship that he had been to, had this strong energy. He had been to churches, temples, mosques, gurdwaras all over the world and all of them had a strong energy which totally enveloped him.
“God lives in the prayers of His devotees” he thought, maybe that was why the prayer house was called the house of God.
Devotion was the path, and devotion was the goal of every devotee and every religion. He knew that, and also knew that man had got to learn to respect every path to God.
Too many wars had been fought and too many had died in those wars. The foolish blamed God for the wars. It never occurred to them that man’s greed; and hatred of others could have been the cause.
A lot of politicians instilled hatred in the people in the hope of gaining political power, and the man on the street bought that and elected them. Hatred was the common ingredient between the man on the street and the politician. It was an opportunity for both to hate.
The reasons for this hate stemmed from many things, like being poor, feeling envious of another, differing customs, but nothing sound enough to validate the hatred. Hatred could never be validated.
The ruling class had always created differences among the people and that is how they kept their power. But the true devotees were never swayed by this hatred, they took solace in their prayers and good deeds. The pious were pious, it did not matter which religion or path they took. A loving heart was all that was needed to change things.
Many knew that, but were simply outnumbered by those who hated. Jesus who was Love Himself, was crucified by such people. His body was tortured, but they could not take away the power of His Love. He changed the world.
Every living Master or Incarnation in the history of mankind, appeared only to wake up man and make him aware of his inherent divinity. Search within they said, and those that did, found that there was nothing but Him, who was verily everything and everywhere. This was true spiritual knowledge and it only needed one thing, Love.
Even though everybody wanted to feel Love, they were too attached to hating others. It had to change at the individual level for it to happen. To stop encouraging hatred is what the politicians needed to learn. And they would, in time. Life gives us what we most needed to learn, and learn we will. This was his faith and he knew he wasn’t wrong about it.
