Aisha's Family
This was not the end. Aisha had seen this sort of thing in movies, but she had no idea that it would happen to her and thought that this too could pass.
It must be just a passing phase she thought. All of her pain had tied her in a knot that nothing could untie. She had to see this through to the end.
Haider loved her and she knew that he would never hurt her. He was sensitive and caring. There was not an evil bone in him.
Her father had tried to warn her about this, but she was too much in love to think clearly. All of her days and nights she had thought of him, loved him and took care of him. Now he had told her that he was gay.
“Where were the signs?” she thought.
Her father had warned her that he was much too effeminate and she would get her heart broken.
But she just dismissed it as the opinion of a suspicious man. Now she regretted not having paid heed to his words.
She had a ten month old baby and was feeling totally helpless. She did not know what was to become of her family which she had yearned for for so long.
All her dreams were shattered in that one sentence from him. How was she going to deal with her husband being in love with another man? What would happen to her? What about the baby? Would she continue to live with him and turn a blind eye to his activities? Or would she return to her father’s home and raise the baby there?
All these questions were in her head and she had no answers.
She felt like she would lose her sanity. The strain was too much. She had wanted to have four children with him and have a happy life watching them grow, get married and have children of their own. They would be grandparents and they would be surrounded by the love of their family.
“Now what?” she thought. She knew she was strong but this had totally taken her by surprise. She loved him and was wholly invested in him. He was the most important person in her life, and now she had lost him. What a cruel twist of fate!
It took lifetimes to find your soulmate, and now she had lost hers in a second. How should she deal with this? That was all that was on her mind. She did not want to hurt him, he was not mean or evil. This was not something he had intentionally done. This was nature playing out. She could not blame him, yet it was he who had broken her heart.
This would have to be sorted out. But for now, she had no idea how to deal with it. She prayed and asked for a way out of this situation that she was in. Only God’s grace on her would give her the answer.
She knew she would have to be patient and she felt compassion enter her heart. Maybe she would accept the stranger and invite him into her family. Men from her community had three or four wives. Was this something her community would accept? She did not know anymore. All she wanted to do was save her family.
